Everything to Know About 'Jurassic World Dominion'

Jun 8, 2022

Released in 1993, Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park marked a major turning point in the combination of practical and computer-generated visual effects and launched a beloved franchise. Followed by The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Jurassic Park III (2001), Jurassic World (2015), and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), the first three films have long been regarded as a trilogy, with the 2015 serving as a combination sequel-reboot. But now all of the stories are being tied together for what promises to be the final big screen outing for everyone’s favorite modern-day dinosaurs. Here’s what you need to do know before one last run with hordes of rampaging reptiles.

‘Dominion’ takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history's most fearsome creatures.

Though plot specifics are scarce, this installment opens up the canvas of the saga considerably as we are now in a world where man and dinosaur share the planet for the very first time—and the dinosaurs can now reproduce. When raptor Blue’s baby is abducted, our heroes are thrown into a doomsday scenario racing against the clock. The footage we’ve seen already promises plenty of globe-trotting action set
pieces involving planes, motorcycles, and lots of roaring.

Though they’ve all been in multiple series entries in some form, this marks the first time all the surviving major characters have joined forces in the same story:

Chris Pratt as Owen Grady: Velociraptor trainer extraordinaire, he makes his third appearance here as the ethologist, ex-Navy vet, and onetime Jurassic World employee.

Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing: Onetime Jurassic World park manager and founder of the Dinosaur Protection Group, she’ still in a relationship with Owen and using her expertise in dinosaur breeds to help save humanity.

Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant: The paleontologist consultant from the original film returns after surviving the Isla Sorna expedition from Jurassic Park III.

Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler: A renowned paleobotanist and a surviving consultant from the original film, she was also in a relationship with Grant at one point and plays a key role in understanding dino behavior.

Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm: After the original film, he returned for two more, most notably The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The wisecracking consultant has provided some of the series’ most memorable one-liners, and that promises to be the case here as well.

Isabella Sermon as Maisie Lockwood: Revealed as a clone in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, she was ultimately responsible for unleashing dinosaurs on the world instead of letting them be exterminated and now lives with Owen and Claire.

BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu: The lead geneticist responsible for bringing dinosaurs back into existence, he first appeared in the original film and makes his fourth series appearance here.

Omar Sy as Barry Sembène: Last seen in Jurassic World, the park animal trainer played by one of France’s most acclaimed actors makes his second series appearance here.

Campbell Scott as Dr. Lewis Dodgson: This one’s a borderline case, with Scott making his first appearance as a returning character, the unscrupulous Biosyn Genetics CEO originally played by Cameron Thor in the first Jurassic Park.

Justice Smith as Franklin Webb: The pro-dinosaur rights activist who once worked as a tech for Jurassic World returns from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Daniella Pineda as Dr. Zia Rodriguez: Also a major dino rights advocate, the paleo-vet makes a return appearance after the previous film.

After sitting out the last film, which was helmed by J.A. Bayona, Colin Trevorrow returns as director for the second time in the series (following Jurassic World). He and his writing partner, Derek Connolly, were responsible for mapping out the entire new trilogy and wrote all three of the entries. The original idea was for a different director to tackle each film, a la the last Star Wars trilogy. Steven Spielberg steps in again as executive producer, with Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley serving a producers. Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino will provide his third consecutive score in the series, which will likely have a slew of funny pun-heavy track titles as usual. Oscar-nominated cinematographer John Schwartzman returns in his second foray after Jurassic World, while editor Mark Sanger makes his first series appearance.
